About this Event

Description:

LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual) individuals disproportionately experience traumatic and adverse experiences throughout their lifetime, largely due to social and systemic stigma. In this session, participants will learn terms and definitions relevant to LGBTQIA+ identities and increase their knowledge of etiquette surrounding pronoun and name usage for transgender and non-binary individuals. Participants will also learn about stigma, health, and trauma disparities facing the LGBTQIA+ community. Finally, participants will also learn ways of providing affirming, trauma-informed care for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Learning Objectives:

    • Increase knowledge regarding terms and definitions relevant to LGBTQIA+ identities
    • Increase knowledge of etiquette surrounding pronoun and name usage for transgender and non-binary individuals
    • Increase understanding of stigma, health disparities, and trauma facing the LGBTQIA+ community
    • Learn ways of providing affirming, trauma-informed care for the LGBTQIA+ community
